Surround Yourself with These Kinds of People
Lately, I've been learning a lot about people who have had negative energies (like people or circumstances) be removed from their lives and subsequently, how much lighter they've felt. As I've been hearing more and more about this, I've noticed a pattern of who people surround themselves with to be happy and also to continue working towards what they want as artists. Take a listen today to find out the kind of people you should surround yourself with in your life.

You Never Know What Will Lead to Your Next Opportunity
As artists, we're always seeking out where we can find our next job, gig or performance, but what we don't think about is how the work we are doing now, will help us get work in the future. In today's episode I'm breaking down my own experiences with this and how we can look at our opportunities now, for opportunities that will come later on.

You Have to Push Through the Resistance
Have you ever decided to do something, and then found yourself making lots of excuses as to why you couldn't? Or maybe you said to yourself, 'I'll do it later." And then later turns into never? Yeah, I've been there a lot, and I'm here to tell you that it happens to everyone. But what separates people, are those who choose to push past that resistance. Take a listen to hear about resistance I've come up against in my career and how I pushed through it.

Ask How Much You're Being Paid, Then Don't Be Sorry
This week's episode is inspired by two personal experiences that happened to me last week, both having to do with payment for a project. It's easy for artists to shy away from asking a fair wage for what our skills our worth because we're excited to have any work at all, but it's also doing a disservice to both us and the industry that we are in. By low balling ourselves, or convincing ourselves that it's okay to work for free on someone else's passion project we're creating an atmosphere that is saying 'hey you don't need to pay us artists a fair (and living!) wage.' And that's not okay.
In today's episode I'm sharing with you the exact situations I experienced last week and how I'm approaching them about payment for their projects. Oh, and I'm not being sorry about asking for money, and you shouldn't either.

You Are Your Best Investment
It's a crazy concept, but the title says it all. No matter what industry you are in, artistic or not, you are your best investment. That means spending money to improve your business, spending money to invest in your materials, and spending money to further your education and knowledge. And that can be scary since investments often come with a big price tag. Today I'm diving in to why it can be difficult to invest in yourself, even if you want to, how to overcome that doubt and why investing in yourself will be the best decision you will ever make.

Only Your Opinions On Your Dreams Matters
This past weekend, I heard a very interesting statement that was first said by Kevin Hart. To paraphrase, it was to not invite people into the conversation about your dreams. That really struck a chord with me since we've all been there before and had advice that maybe was well meaning, but did not come out in the best way. I'm sharing my thoughts today on why only your opinions matter when it comes to your dreams and how to get out of feeling like everyone's opinion has to be taken into consideration.

How You Define Success is Up to You
Have you ever heard someone's opinions that someone or something is or isn't successful? I've heard time and time again that only when you reach a certain 'achievement' only then can you be considered successful in your artistic career. Well today, I'm talking about why that isn't true. How you define success is not up to other people. The only person who can define your success is you. Take a listen now to see how you can start to understand and define your own success, and how to feel empowered as an artist while doing so.

Remember to Give Yourself Grace
As things start to pick back up in the artistic world, it can be easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of things. However, it's just as important to remember that while everything is starting up again, we don't push ourselves too much and give ourselves grace. In today's episode I'm sharing a personal story about how I was so ready to get back into my art and how I was personally pushing myself, maybe too much, and what I learned from it.

Be Proud of What You Accomplished This Year!
2021 has been one heck of a year. We're in such a different place than where we were a year ago and so much has changed since then. No matter what industry you're in, everyone has had to change, readjust and pivot throughout the year. And as artists, of which many professions involve being around or performing for other people, we've had to make every sort of change under the sun continue making art and sharing it with our communities. It's been a long, windy road, but guess what? You DID IT. And that calls for a celebration of what you've accomplished this year. Take a listen to now to today's episode to really see how I know you've made a difference during the year.

Happy 100th Episode! Here's What I've Learned So Far About Being an Empowered Artist!
It's our 100th episode of the podcast! I can't believe it! In January 2021 the first episode of The Empowering Artists Podcast was released (and it had a different name too!) and here we are almost a full year later with our 100th episode. I'm so grateful for everyone who has listened and my hope is that with every episode you learn something new or feel encouraging and empowered as an artist. When I first started this podcast, I was an actor who didn't know anything about recording audio and turning it into a podcast. It was a new artistic project I was so scared to do, but am so happy that I took that first step. Take a listen to the most important lesson I've learned about how to be an empowered artist, no matter what field you're in. And again, thank you for making this 100th episode possible!!

I Was Told My Work Was Awful. Here's Why That Comment Doesn't Phase Me
Hi everyone, today I'm sharing a story about something I recently experienced when I tried my hand at a different artistic medium than what I typically do. My artistic work was call bad and I was told I didn't put in any effort. Those words frustrated me a lot, and I know that I'm not the only one to have experienced a situation like this. In today's episode I'm sharing with you that situation, how I processed it and why it's important to remember not everyone has to like you or your work, and that's okay. Once we allow ourselves to take all comments in stride, that's when we really feel empowered as an artist.

Get Rid of Your All or Nothing Mentality
When you're going after your dreams, it can be really easy to have blinders on, and not see what's around you. Life is constantly changing and there are different seasons for everything. The last couple of weeks, I've noticed myself spending more time on other projects outside my career and my family. I Didn't Post When I Usually Do, and that's Okay!
If you've been listening to the podcast for a while now, you know that I upload episodes on Mondays and Thursdays. Well the past week, I did not follow that schedule nearly as well as I usually do, and that's okay! Life happens, and things get moved around. Past me would have freaked out that everything wasn't 'perfect' but present me was a little disappointed and then moved on. I think that this is a great example as to why people sometimes don't go after what they want: it's not 'perfect' so why even try when you could freak out and talk yourself out of it instead? Today I'm sharing why you don't need to be perfect when it comes to pursuing your artistic journey. In fact, it might be better if you just go for it perfect or not! Take a listen now!

I Got 5 'Nos' in a Row
In today's episode, I'm opening up a little bit about my own journey as an artist and actor. The last five projects I submitted to/auditioned for didn't go the way I was hoping and I ended up getting a 'no' from them. In all honesty, it kinda sucked and I was feeling down for a little bit. Today I'm sharing a bit of what happened and my thoughts on the matter. I know that I'm not sharing as much as I could be, but I'm still working on being more vulnerable and expressing myself in that way. If you resonate at all with this episode, I hope that you remember that it's okay to feel sad about projects that didn't happen but that doesn't mean it's the end of your career, it's just part of it.

Take a listen to today's episode and find out why every artist, no matter where they are in their career, needs to hear this.
